I am expecting a new 27 inch iMac tomorrow, and I plan on upgrading the ram. I have watched the videos on how to upgrade the ram; and in some videos they mix the existing Apple ram and the new ram. I am transitioning from the PC world and I would like to know if this is a common practice. I plan on installing 16 gig Corsair Vengeance ram, which is supported by Apple in the 2017 27 inch iMac. Should I mix the ram, or only use the Corsair Vengeance ram? Any and all replies are greatly appreciated from a Mac newbie.

Imac 27 2019 Ram Slots Slot
- Apple will have correctly done this when you got it, so together the original or new memory must be in the two slots the original memory was in, and the other pair in the other two slots. In my 2017 iMac the pairing is interleaved i.e. Slots 1&3, 2&4 in pairs. Not sure about 2019. Not sure its easy to tell from system report but I've never.
- Also Amazon states that the RAM I purchased is compatible with Apple iMac 5K 2019 3.1, 3.6, 3.7 models of which mine is the 3.7. More Less Dec 27, 2019 10:37 AM.
- I have new i9 with 2x4GB from Apple. I have purchased 2x16 (the popular choice) for a total of 40GB. So far, I can't get it recognise the new RAM. I have done various slot swapping, so I know the Apple RAM works in either slots 2 & 4 or 1 & 3. I have noticed that System Information has Memory Slots: EEC: Disabled, Upgradeable RAM: No.
